I Secretly Love Being the Neighborhood House

We’re the house where the neighborhood kids gather.

Our yard is filled with bikes abandoned in favor of a soccer match. Chalk drawings cover our driveway and the woods behind our house has eaten a whole lot of kickballs.

The home where the screen door is opened twenty-eight times in one afternoon and the kids are constantly sticky with popsicle juice.

A space where jokes are shared, laughter is loud and imagination lives on. The house where it feels safe to still be a kid. Forts are epic, ghost stories are told by pretend campfires & everyone can always stay for dinner.

To be the yard where hair gets messy, feet get dirty & the wonders of childhood are still fully present is really dang magical.

There will come a day where I won’t step out to the scattered shoes of neighborhood friends, and I think it just might break my heart.

Hey Heather, if you’re reading this, I have C’s shoes.
